We made it to Florida! After many smelly hours in the car, Andrew and I rolled into our happy place, unpacked the car and trailer, and sighed that big ahhh of being in our Florida home.
And then the sky said, Welcome! Here’s a hurricane.
Yep. We arrived just in time for a week of storms that rattled the windows and basically drenched our patio and left ponds in the low areas of our yard.
Today we’re pointing the car south for a month of Florida sunshine.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Susie. It’s October in Minnesota. The trees are on fire with color and you’re LEAVING? I know. I love the fall colors too. Truly. But we are exactly one month shy of our six-months-and-a-day agreement with the great state of Florida.
Pull up a chair — the meeting’s already started.
This is what a Susan May Warren Fiction morning meeting looks like: three generations, one very small chairwoman running a tight agenda (JoJo does not tolerate rabbit trails), and enough coffee to reanimate the dead. Here’s our meeting minutes.
Agenda Item one: The garage lives.
So, in my bible reading this week, I’m in Psalms 69.
It starts like this: Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in the miry depths, where there is no foothold. I have come into the deep waters; the floods engulf me.
I just love David.
So Andrew and I snuck off to Iowa for the weekend to see his family, hang out with Jojo and the gang and then…came home feeling punky. You know the feeling. A little sick, the kind that requires a sofa, a blanket, and zero ambition.
Which is how we ended up watching The Sheep Detectives.
So, I’m back from an amazing ACFW conference, hanging out with all my author friends, brainstorming new novel ideas with my brilliant Sunrise Publishing authors, and eating way too much delicious food from the Peabody hotel.
But…this was one of their delicious desserts.
It’s a duck. A white chocolate duck that appears to be floating in a pool of its own blood!!

That’s my daughter, Sarah, (yes, that Sarah, who writes Hockey RomComs with me) and her lovely daughter Jojo. They’ve got their thinking caps on.

Oh, what a week.
Last week I got to do my very favorite thing— I hung out with my grandkids (and their parents! Also my favorite!) We spent the week at the pool, hit the Mall of America, wandered the Dakota County Fair, played approximately nine thousand games, and generally caught up with our favorite little humans.
Okay, I’m going to tell you a secret.
Today. Just now. I finished Book 3 of an epic new series I’ve been hinting at for weeks, and I simply cannot hold it in one more second: Roy and Ziggy: Against All Odds.
Seven books. All releasing in 2027. International,
It’s a rather gloomy day here in Minnesota. I’m not complaining—I love rainy days. And my pajamas. Rainy days and pajamas. That’s where we’re at today.
