I know it’s been a hot minute since we last chatted – mostly because after the Great Flood of our Northern Home, we spend the week packing all our belonging…

And then we got into the car and headed south…
|
|
And arrived in Iowa in time to read stories to this cutie…

All. Was. Good.
And then we got on the road to Florida.
About 2 hours into the road trip, we heard a clunk. Then another clunk. Not happy clunks. (Is there such a thing?) And we pulled off at a local Walmart.
Hubs got out and looked under the car. Gave me this face:

Apparently, the brake caliper had come disconnected. (In case you don’t know what a brake caliper is, the brake caliper is an important part of a car’s disc brake system. Its job is to press the brake pads against the brake rotor to help slow down or stop the car.)
So, in short, it’s an important part of driving equation. ![]()
We’re not sure how it came disconnected, (but hubs thought maybe he had a silver moment and forgot to tighten the bolts when he changed the brake pads recently), but here’s the short…it has unique bolts that are special ordered…
Enter the God Moment(s).
Hubs just *happened* to have brought his tool box. He opened the box and searched for any random bolts that might work. No dice. So he thought…hey, I’ll root through all my wires and see if I can write something up until we get to a shop. So he opened his bottom drawer. And there, in the back…4 specialized bolts that fit that caliper. Bolts that normally he might have tossed when he changed out the caliper. But…not this time. For some reason he kept them…
And he fixed them and we were back on the road.
So grateful.
We listened to podcasts and enjoyed a peaceful ride to Florida…
And then…
Then! We arrived on a hot Sunday afternoon only to discover that our AC was broken. I mentioned the HOT part, right?
We called the emergency hotline. The AC guy came over…broken compressor. Yes, it might take up to a week to fix.
We went out and bought a fan.
And two days later, I jumped in the car and headed out to a conference. With air conditioning while hubs waited for the AC to turn on…
We just had to laugh. But life is that way, right? One roadblock after another. One problem to the next. But there is happiness between the obstacles. My home is conveniently packed up now, in case we want to make the move full time to Florida. We enjoyed 23 hours of fun podcasts and conversation in the car. And, we were able to blow up our silly hot tub (now called the cold tub) and praise God we made it to Florida in one piece.
When I write stories, between all the running and hiding and falling off cliffs, I try and put in the fun moments. The banter. The stories that bond my characters.
I loved this review on Amazon that captured that: (Thank you!!)

If you haven’t picked up Steinbeck yet, grab him on Amazon (he’s also in Kindle Unlimited!)

On Friday, I’ll tell you the REST of the story…(yes, there’s more!) but for now, thanks for reading!
Warmly,

P.S. Since I missed Friday’s Free book, you get 2 this week!
If you love second-chance romance with actual depth, characters who feel like real people dealing with real trauma, and a setting that becomes a character itself, you need this book. Trust me on this one—it’s going straight to your keeper shelf.
