And now, for something different…or, What I Did During Covid 2020

Rel Mollet Books, Family, Good Stuff, On Writing

So, you know how it went…last year was the crazy year.

The year we all found ourselves doing something different. Staying at home. Homeschooling, maybe. Reading more. Making foods we hadn’t tried. Mostly, living outside our comfort zone, right?

Me too.

So, I did something I’d ALWAYS wanted to do but never had time. Because before, I was traveling. A LOT.

Instead, in 2020 I stayed home. And…

I wrote a Time Travel Detective series.

Now, in full disclosure, I had planned, and HOPED to write this series since 2016 when I originally plotted it with James L. Rubart and my eldest son, David Warren. (Here’s David and me celebrating my birthday last week. I’m 29. Same age as he is–it’s a miracle! And yes, those are 3 desserts. There were more people at the table than us. REALLY!)

I actually wrote the first book (of a 6-book series) in August of 2016. But then…

Well then, LIFE, right? My writing schedule filled up with other projects and I didn’t have time to finish the other five books.

And then the world shut down. Conferences got cancelled.

I stayed home.

And I pulled out that long-simmering dream.

I wrote all 5 books in from March to August, (with the brainstorming help of Jim and David!) and…

And the first book comes out in 10 days. February 9, 2021!!

OOH, I loved writing this book. It’s about a former Minneapolis police detective turned aspiring author who accidently finds himself back in time to solve a cold case. He has no idea that in solving the case he might destroy the life he loves…

Rembrandt Stone is a man who loves his wife, his daughter…but has a few regrets he’d like to set right. If you loved the series Quantum Leap, you’ll resonate with Rem’s desire to put right what went wrong. I like to think the series is a little bit Harry Bosch, a little Sam Beckett (Quantum Leap) and a little Back to the Future…

😊

Now I have to tell you…this book is NOT a typical Susan May Warren book. It’s first person, it’s in male POV, and it’s a little gritter than my usual fare. But, I think you’ll love it. AND…if you’ll trust me, I believe the journey is worth it. Emotionally AND spiritually. I promise. (But, because it’s a bit out of the ordinary…and all three authors have a hand in it, we decided to go with a PEN name…David James Warren)

Here’s what a pre-reader had to say (Thank you, Bobbi!)

Want a sneak peek? HERE’s a PDF of the first chapter. OR Go here:https://rembrandtstone.com/ (and scroll down to the bottom) to get the AUDIO excerpt!! (You’ll love it!)

The book is on sale for preorder $4.99 (ebook)And the print book will be available for preorder soon. It’ll also be available in audio book with the amazing James L. Rubart as narrator. I have to say, it’s just about the best audio recording I’ve ever listened to. Jim IS Rembrandt Stone. (It’ll be available soon on all platforms!)

😊

Oh, and there’s 6 books in the series, but they ALL come out in 2021. So, yes, there’s a bit of a cliffhanger at the end of each book (although the mysteries are all solved!)…but you won’t have long to wait between each one.

So…that’s what I did in the Crazy Covid Year of 2020.

Oh, and this. We bought a getaway house in Florida. It’s near a beach. Which, as it turns out, is A LOT different than snow.
