That time we almost sank…

Hello from the boat! We got Big Red working this weekend, and took her out for a fun maiden voyage.

Actually, that’s a lie. My husband took her out for a maiden voyage in February.

And nearly sank the poor girl.

It wasn’t his fault. Really. Apparently some plug inside the boat broke loose on the long ride home from the previous owner, and when hubs put her in the water, he had no idea that she was gulping down great slurps of inland waterway!

He got out past the buoys in the slow wake area and discovered he was sinking, and fast. So much for a three hour tour! Poor Gilligan called for help and some sweet elderly Minnesotan (gotta love them, even in Florida!) puttered out to get him, and tow him in (puttering because we don’t want to break the no wake zone. We Minnesotans are also rule followers…) and Hubs managed to tow Red in before she hit bottom.

But. He spent the next month finding the hole, fixing it, rebuilding the now sodden carburetors and cleaning fish from the bilge.

Red lived to fight another day. We’re not fine tuning her for fun, but in anticipation of summer when the kiddos join us for Camp Warren.
