That moment when…

Rel Mollet Books, Family, On Writing

It’s finished!!

Hey friends,

This is today’s view. I know you’re thinking…snow? But what I see are WINDOWS. And light. And occasionally ducks and geese. But most of all…a long-awaited dream nearly finished.

We’ve lived in our current house for 4 years, and when we moved in, I knew that it would need to be completely remodeled. (it was a basic 1969 split level that still had the original cabinets, a pink kitchen, and a space that desperately needed updating.)

We spent 2019 gutting the house and rebuilding it…mostly on weekends and evenings…(that’s me lifting that incredibly heavy beam. Okay, not really. It’s made of something a lot lighter than wood. But it LOOKS pretty boss, right?)

Here’s where we ended up. (The dog is real and wonders what the heck I’m doing disturbing his beauty rest.)

But I was still a nomad with my office—not having a settled place to write, to work, to hold online conferences, anything I needed to do for my job. I dreamed of an office. But it had to wait until the rest of the house was nearly finished. Fine. Whatever.

This past spring, we finally dove into the project. With the help of a local building company, who put up the rough exterior, we ran heating, electrical, sheet-rocked, painted, installed the ceiling, the fixtures…you get it.

And last weekend…I moved in.

Ah. (and yes, that is a porch swing with festive lights. Because every office should have a swing in it, I say.)

I have to say, that feeling of FINISHING something is pretty amazing. (And before you mention that we don’t have trim on our windows yet, I know, I know. I’m still trying to figure out what kind of trim I want…) It felt JUST THAT AMAZING to finish writing Price of Valor, the 3rd book in the G-SAR series. Not only did I wind up a series thread that wound through a total of 10 books, but I gathered in a few friends from previous books on the pages, too.

I received this fun note from a reader who stopped by my site last week:

😊

Thank you all for your sweet words about Price of Valor. I love Ham too.  And, because of your kindness, POV is sitting at a 5 solid star average at Amazon.com! Whoo hoo!

So now, what am I working on? Here’s a sneak peek of my scribbles that eventually become a novel:

I’m calling it the Alaska Boys series, and it’s about three brothers (you *may* have heard about them in the Summer of the Burning Sky series) who return home from the military after their father has a terrible plane crash…and discover the trouble awaits them. (Of course!) I’m just starting to get to know these three brothers, but you can bet that you’ll see some familiar faces appear in these books.

Thank you again for reading my books. It’s not lost on me that you could spend your valuable time doing something else, and you choose to read my novels instead. It is my honor to work hard to earn your trust as a reader and make that time worthwhile with a fantastic story!

XOXO!
