It’s a rather gloomy day here in Minnesota. I’m not complaining—I love rainy days. And my pajamas. Rainy days and pajamas. That’s where we’re at today.

I’m sitting here with my coffee, reflecting on July. It was a good month. We attended two family reunions, hung out in Pennsylvania with friends, visited Constitution square and installed a sprinkler system in our garden (actually hubs did that, but there was a lot of cheering from me while I held stuff).
Anyway, I’m back to writing furiously before our family goes on our August vacay, and I got to thinking about a question one of my distant relatives asked me…why do I write?
And the answer sort of spilled out of me. I don’t write because I have some deep well of creativity just waiting to spill out. I write because it makes me desperately dependent on the Lord. Every single book. I sit down at that blank page and I have nothing — nothing — until His words start filling in the empty spaces and holding the whole shaky thing up. Writing isn’t proof that I’m capable. It’s proof that He is.
And I’m a little addicted to that. ![]()
Anyway. That’s the devotional portion of our morning. Onward to the fun stuff, because I have loot for you today.
FREEBIE #1: Recipes from the Darkwater Inn
|
|
My friend Robin Caroll put together this gorgeous little collection of Southern recipes from her Darkwater Inn series, plus real family and friend recipes tucked in alongside them. If you like your fiction with a side of actual cornbread, this one’s for you.
FREEBIE #2: Storm Warning by Colleen Coble
|
|
When meteorologist Randi Walker gets an invitation to a storm-chasing team reunion, it’s her shot at finally figuring out what happened to her engagement. She hasn’t seen her ex-fiancé Brock Parker since he vanished without a word two weeks before the wedding (rude, Brock. Truly rude.). Now she’s determined to get answers — except the storm clouds gathering over this reunion might be a lot more literal, and a lot more dangerous, than anyone bargained for.
Happy Friday!
Next week is busy because the kids arrive on Saturday for our annual family vacation. We all carve out six glorious days today for fun game time, pool time and general loudness.
Here’s an old vacay photo of the OGs from years past.
