I think the founder looks a little too caffeinated. 
That’s my daughter, Sarah, (yes, that Sarah, who writes Hockey RomComs with me) and her lovely daughter Jojo. They’ve got their thinking caps on.
In truth, that’s just an ordinary impromptu meeting, although I have to say I love it when Jojo, upon hearing the Slack call, drops her Bluey toy (usually) and runs to say hi. Best part of the day!
But life is good when it’s filled with those beautiful, ordinary moments. We persevere from moment to beautiful moment, don’t we?
In my quiet times these last few days, I keep coming back to something simple: the Christian faith, at its heart, is perseverance. It’s leaning into the Lord’s great love — through the trials and the suffering and the good times too — and keeping our eyes fixed on the risen Christ and His resurrection power at work in us. And that changes everything.
Last week I went to the funeral of a dear saint in our church. During the service, the preacher shared something she’d said near the end of her life. She wondered aloud whether she had loved Jesus enough. Now — she was already saved, of course. She’d walked with the Lord for decades. This wasn’t a worry about her salvation. It was something sweeter and deeper than that. God had given her so much, blessed her so richly, that her whole response was simply to love Him back. And she wanted to know if she had loved Him enough in return for His enormous love for her.
Those words have sat inside me since then.
Because that’s the posture, isn’t it? Not striving to earn what’s already ours — but responding to a great love with love. And I find it working its way into everything I do: how I write my stories, how I evaluate books for publication, how I encourage the authors I get to work alongside, how I treat my family, my husband, my friends (none of those are in order or priority, btw!) Persevere. Lean into His love. Rely on His resurrection power. And run the race well, as a response to the One who loved us first.
Okay. Those are my Deep Tuesday Thoughts. Back to the fun stuff.
Tomorrow I’m off to an annual writing conference to spend time with some of my very favorite people on the planet — authors. I get to teach a class on how to write a bestseller, hug a lot of writing buddies I haven’t seen in far too long, and generally soak up the wonderful, slightly chaotic energy that happens when a bunch of storytellers get in the same room. It’s my happy place, and I can’t wait.
